| Objectives &
Mission of the Department: |
| |
The college has
been offering chemistry as a major subject at the graduate
level. Since in 1950-51 under the University of Madras. Later
in 1959, the department was upgraded as PG centre of the university.
Professor N.Chakravarthy was the first head of the department.
Stalwarts like Prof L.R.Ganesan and Dr.V.N.Vedandadesikan
nurtured this department to its present states.
|
| |
The Chemistry
course is aimed at nourishing the best in a student in terms
of analytical and theoretical understanding of the subject.
The syllabus at the undergraduate level is designated to provide
the students a firm grasps of the rudiments of the subject
infuse confidence in them and motivate them to prepare for
the entrance examinations of reputed institutions like the
IIT, and the IISc in Bangalore. Every year deserving students
are selected to pursue higher studies leading to M.Tech and
degrees in specialized field in chemistry. |
| |
In our Pg programmer,
the syllabus was revised and updated in 1999 to include topics
and developments in certain areas of chemistry at an advanced
level. A paper on computer application in chemistry has been
introduced from June 2002.
|
| |
The updated syllabus
enables the students to equip themselves in a better way and
motivates them to appear for GATE and CSIR entrance examinations
and any other competitive examinations. |
| |
Every year a good
number of our PG students seek admission into the research
programmed at IITs, Universities and CSIR laboratories. |
| |
|
| DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATE
COURSES OFFERED: |
| |
The department
introduced a diploma course in Industrial Water Analysis and
Waste Treatment with specialization on saving rainwater and
making it usable, from June 2002 onwards. Many students have
joined in this course and after completion of the course,
they are appointed in various companies. |
| |
Campus interview
are conducted for our UG and PG students the various reputed

| |
As a part of co-curricular
activities, the department started the "chemistry club"
with the HOD as president and students of UG and PG as secretary
and joint secretaries. |
| |
We propose to
introduce the following papers in Theory for UG major class,
its mean future. |
