A free fledged UG department came into
being in 1966. The PG course in Zoology is offered under
self-financing scheme since 1991.
This department got recognition as Research
center in Zoology in 1994, under MK University. Eight
research scholars have enrolled at this center.
The department is a model
center for the inventorying of the biodiversity of the
western gnets and the eastern gnets from 1994.
Course Highlights

The papers offered for
study are of high standard. Papers on Applied entomology,
Aquaculture and poultry Biodiversity and conservation,
Microbiology, Immunology and Biotechnology meet the
expectations of the region and of the nation. They provide
ample for opportunities also. The syllabus on "Biodiversity
and conservation" has won the recognition of IISc
Bangalore and M.S.Swaminathan Research foundation, chennai.

The department has been
well served by eminent persons like Prof. K. Srinivasan,
Prof. Ramaseshan, Dr. K. Venkatraman Prof. Murugan,
Dr. K.G. Siva Rama Krishnan and Prof K.R. Anantha Krishnan.
Dr. D.G. Sivarama Krishnan
was a full bright scholar. He was also a recipient of
Dr. Radha Krishnan Award of TN govt for "Best Teacher".
He was an authority of Aquatic entomology.
The department, being a
research center, is well equipped with Lab facilities
and Library.
The students of the department
are encouraged to participate in competition like paper
presentation and develop skills.
